We are currently investigating an alternating laminate like the one shown simulated. The structure exhibits "piezomagnetic" behavior. Composites within a range of particle alignments, magnetization alignments, volume fractions, and aspect ratios show uniaxial strain behavior that is linear and reversible with applied field, whereas traditional magnetostrictives are quadratic and therefore not reversible.
